1. Schedule of ISAT-2010
   The examination will be held on Friday, the April 16, 2010 as per details given below:
   Paper-I: 10:00 AM - 12:00 Noon (IST)
   Paper-II: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM (IST)
   The schedule will remain unaltered even if the above date is declared a public holiday.
2. Nature of Examination
   All questions will be of objective type and will consist of three separate sections in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The answer for each question is to be recorded on a specially designed machine-gradable sheet of paper. The candidate is expected to choose the correct answer options and record his/her response by darkening the appropriate bubble using hard black (HB) pencils only. Marking more than one answer for any given question will render the response invalid. Correct answers will be awarded three marks each. Every incorrect answer will be awarded one negative mark.
   The detailed syllabi, based on which ISAT-2010 will be conducted, for the three subjects, namely, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are given in APPENDIX-1.
   
3. Test Centres
   ISAT-2010 will be conducted in about thirty cities across India. Please see APPENDIX-2 for the list of Test Centres. While applying, candidates should choose any three different cities in the order of preference for writing the Admission Test. While all efforts will be made to allot the Test Centre based on the candidate's first preference itself, in some circumstances, it may become necessary to decide the allotment based on the second or third choice. Chairman, ISAT- 2010, however, reserves the right to allot any Test Centre, not opted by the candidate, without assigning any reason. There can be more than one Test Centre within a given city and the allotment of candidates to such Sub-Centre will be at the discretion of Chairman, ISAT-2010. The Test Centre or Sub-Centre, once allotted will be final and no requests for change will be entertained.
4. Fee:
   A Student seeking admission to ISAT-2010 is required to pay Examination Fee as under:
   Male candidates in GEN and OBC categories : Rs.500/-
   SC, ST, PD candidates and female candidates in all categories : Rs.250/-
   The payment is to be made in the form of a crossed Demand Draft drawn on any Nationalised Bank in favour of "The Registrar, IIST", payable at Thiruvananthapuram.
5. Use of calculating and communication aids
   Use of electronic devices like mobile phone, calculator, I-Pod etc. are NOT PERMITTED in ISAT-2010. Materials like Log table, book, notebook, etc. are prohibited in the examination hall.

1. Citizenship
   Only Indian citizens are eligible to appear in ISAT-2010.
2. Date of Birth
   The date of birth of candidates belonging to GEN and OBC categories should be on or after October 1, 1985, while the date of birth of those belonging to SC, ST and PD categories should be on or after October 1, 1980.
   The date of birth as recorded in the high school/first Board /or its equivalent will be accepted. If the certificate does not mention the date of birth, candidate must submit at the time of Counselling an authenticated document from competent authority indicating the date of birth.
   
3. Qualifying Examination (QE)
   A candidate must have passed the QE for the first time, in the calendar year 2009 or 2010, provided the results are available before 1 July 2010. Those who are expecting the results of QE later than July 1, 2010 are not eligible to apply for ISAT-2010.
   The qualifying examinations are listed below:
   1. The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized Central / State Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi, etc.
   2. Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board / University.
   3. Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
   4. General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London / Cambridge / Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
   5. High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
   6. Any Public School/Board/University examination in India or in any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)
   7. H.S.C. vocational examination.
   8. Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
   In case the relevant qualifying examination is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination at an earlier level.
   
4. Minimum Percentage of Marks in Class X or equivalent examination
   Candidates belonging to GEN and OBC categories must have at least 70% in all subjects combined and those belonging to SC, ST and PD categories must have at least 60%.
5. Minimum Percentage of Marks in 10 + 2 or equivalent examination
   
   • Candidates belonging to GEN and OBC categories must have at least 70% in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) papers and those belonging to SC, ST and PD categories must have at least 60%.
   • For both Class X and 10 +2 examinations, the percentage of marks awarded by the Board will be treated as final. If the Board provides the equivalent percentage of marks against grades, then the candidate has to base his/her calculations in percentage. If a Board awards only letter grades without providing an equivalent percentage of marks on the grade sheet, the candidate should obtain a certificate from the Board specifying the equivalent marks as percentages (total aggregate in Class X and PCM for Class 10 +2), and submit it at the time of counseling. Candidates should produce equivalence certificate if required at the time of counseling.
6. Points to be noted
   
   1. The year of passing the Qualifying Examination is the year in which the candidate has passed, for the first time, any of the examinations listed in IV.3. above.
   2. The offer of admission is subject to verification of original certificates/ documents at the time of Counselling. If any candidate is found ineligible at a later date, even after admission to the Institute, his/ her admission will be cancelled.
   3. If a candidate is expecting the results of the QE in 2010, he/she shall submit the relevant documents in support of passing the examination and obtaining 70% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (60% in case of SC/ST candidates) on or before 1 July 2010.
   4. If a candidate has passed any of the examinations listed in Clause 3 for the first time before the calendar year 2009, he/she is not eligible to appear in ISAT-2010.
   5. If a Board invariably declares the results of the QE late (only after July 1, every year), the candidate is advised to attempt ISAT in 2011 or later, unless he has already passed his/her QE in 2009.
   6. The decision of "The Director, IIST" regarding the eligibility of any applicant shall be final.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION

Stage 1: Registration:
Access IIST Website (www.iist.ac.in/IIST/ISAT2010/)
• Go to "New Registration"
• Enter Name, Email address, and other details asked for
• System will display an image ("CAPTCHA") and provide an input text box for entering the CAPTCHA. After entering the CAPTCHA successfully, candidate must click on "Register" button.
PLEASE VERIFY THAT ALL DETAILS ENTERED, ESPECIALY NAME AND EMAIL ID ARE CORRECT BEFORE CLICKING THE "Register" BUTTON.
• On successful completion of the log-in session, the system will generate a unique "ISAT-2010 Password" for each candidate. An email will be sent to the candidate mentioning the login id and Password. Please note that the log-in id is the same as the registered email id of the candidate. The candidate is advised not to delete the above email containing his/her login id and Password as they may be required for future use.
Stage 2: Online Submission of Application

• This stage can be activated only with the "ISAT-2010 Password". Please go to your mailbox to retrieve the password sent by ISAT-2010. To complete this stage, details of the Demand Draft (Examination Fee) are required. Keep the Demand Draft ready before entering this stage. For online Submission of Application, the candidate has to login to IIST site using login id (candidate’s registered e-mail id) and "ISAT-2010 Password".
• Enter carefully all the data asked for. Help (Tool-tip) is provided wherever necessary to fill the form correctly.
• After the successful submission of the application, click "NEXT STEP" to preview the submitted information.
  PLEASE VERIFY THAT ALL DETAILS ENTERED ARE CORRECT BEFORE CLICKING THE SUBMIT BUTTON.
• Click "SUBMIT". The system will generate a unique Registration Number, which will have to be retained by the candidate for future reference.
• Click "GET MY ADMIT CARD". The PDF file of "ISAT-2010 ADMIT CARD" and "APPLICATION FORM" will be displayed for download and printing. Print the ADMIT CARD and APPLICATION FORM.
• The candidate will affix one recent passport size colour photograph in the ISAT-2010 ADMIT CARD. The photograph should be duly attested under official seal by the Principal of the School last attended or by a Gazetted Officer.
• The candidate must affix his signature and paste an unattested photograph on the space provided in the APPLICATION FORM. THE CANDIDATE MUST NOT SIGN ON THE PHOTOGRAPH.
Stage 3: Submission of Documents by Post
• The completed "ISAT-2010 ADMIT CARD" with attested photograph on it and the Application Form with the unsigned photograph, along with the DD should be sent to the Chairman, ISAT-2010 by Speed Post. Candidates are advised in their own interest not to send the documents by ordinary post or private courier services. The name and Registration Number of the candidate must be entered on the reverse side of the Demand Draft.
• Please keep the postal receipt for future reference. One can also submit the documents in person at the IIST office. This completes your Application Process.
Last date for receipt of the documents
The last date for receipt of the Admit card, Application Form, and the DD at the IIST is 5:00 PM on February 8, 2010. Anything received later than this will not be accepted. Office of ISAT-2010 will not be responsible for any postal delay or loss during postal transit. No acknowledgement card will be sent regarding receipt of the documents.

• Once the Admit Card, Application Form and the DD are received at ISAT- 2010 Office within the stipulated time, a Hall Ticket will be sent to the eligible candidates. The Hall Ticket will bear the Name, Roll number, Date of birth, Address and Category of the candidate, along with details of the venue of ISAT-2010 Test Centre/Sub-Centre allotted. Please note that the Roll Number will be different from the Registration number allotted earlier.
• ISAT-2010 office will not be responsible for any postal delay or irregularity resulting in non-delivery of the Hall Ticket. No duplicate Hall Ticket will be issued. The candidate should carefully examine the Hall Ticket received by him/her for the correctness of all the entries made therein. In case of any discrepancy, the candidate should inform the ISAT-2010 office immediately.
• On receipt of the Hall Ticket, the candidate must paste on it a recent passport size colour photograph, identical to the one earlier submitted, in the space provided. The Hall Ticket with the photograph pasted on it must be brought to the Test Centre at the time of the examination. Only those candidates, who hold valid Hall Ticket with photograph pasted on it will be allowed to write the Test. The candidate must report at the Test Centre at least 30 minutes before the scheduled commencement of the Test.
• In case the Hall Ticket is not received by March 20, 2010, the candidate must immediately contact the ISAT-2010 office through telephone or e-mail. After due verification, ISAT-2010 may issue appropriate instructions to facilitate the candidate to write the examination, subject to certain conditions. However, this cannot be claimed as a matter of right by the candidate. Since the successful candidates are required to produce the Hall Ticket at the time of Counselling and Admission to IIST, it should be carefully preserved until the admission process to IIST is completed in all respects.
  
  Identity Verification at the Test Centre At the examination hall, the invigilator will verify the candidate's identity with respect to his/her details on the Hall Ticket and ISAT database. If the identity is in doubt, the candidate will not be allowed to appear in the Test. Any impersonation or other examination malpractices will lead to disqualification in ISAT-2010.

1. Performance in ISAT-2010
   The answer paper of ISAT-2010 is a machine-gradable Optical Response Sheet (ORS). These sheets are scrutinized and graded with extreme care after the examination. There is NO provision for re-grading and re-totalling. No photocopies of the machine-gradable sheets will be made available. No correspondence in this regard will be entertained.
Candidates will get to know their performance in ISAT-2010 through the Rank List/Category List through IIST websites in May 2010.
2. Ranking
   Ranking of the ISAT-2010 candidates will be based on the following procedure:
   1. Only those candidates who write both Paper-I and Paper-II of ISAT-2010 will be considered for the ranking. Marks in Physics in ISAT-2010 will be equal to marks in Physics section of Paper-I plus marks in Physics section of Paper-II. Similar procedure will be followed for Chemistry and Mathematics. The sum of the marks obtained in the three subjects in ISAT-2010 will be the aggregate mark for the candidate.
   2. Let 'N' be the total number of "GENERAL" seats for all B.Tech programmes at IIST.
   3. Let the average of the marks secured by all the candidates in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics be μX, μY, and μZ, respectively.
   4. List subject wise (Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics) the marks secured by the first 'k * N' candidates where k = 20. Let the marks secured by the 'k*N th' candidate, in each subject list where k=20, for Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics be 'X', 'Y' and 'Z', respectively. These 'X', 'Y' and 'Z', will form the cut-off marks for Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. In the procedure outlined for "Rank List", "X", "Y", and "Z" are fixed.
   5. List the aggregates (of Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics) in the descending order. Remove from this list all who have secured less than the cut-off in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics or scored less than the average in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. This forms the "Rank list". Please note that the number of candidates in the "Rank List" may be lower than "k * N".
   6. A separate PD, SC, ST and OBC (non-creamy) list will be made based on the following relaxed criteria.
   7. For candidates of PD category, having 3 % reservation within the overall reservation, the number of seats within PD will be distributed based on the overall reservation (GEN: 50.5 %, OBC (non-creamy): 27 %, SC: 15 %, ST: 7.5 %). The relaxed criteria (reduced cut off) applicable for a PD candidate will be 0.6 * X, 0.6 * Y, 0.6 * Z, respectively. Also, the PD candidates will have to secure marks in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics which is equal to or greater than 0.6*μ_X, 0.6*μ_Y, and 0.6*μ_Z, respectively.
   8. For candidates of SC and ST categories having 15 % and 7.5 % reservation, the relaxed criteria or reduced cut off will be 0.6 * X, 0.6 * Y, 0.6 * Z, respectively. Furthermore, they will have to secure marks in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics which is equal to or greater than 0.6*μ_X, 0.6*μ_Y, and 0.6*μ_Z, respectively.
   9. For candidates of OBC (non-creamy) category having 27 % reservation, the relaxed criteria or reduced cut off will be 0.9 * X, 0.9 * Y, 0.9 * Z, respectively. Furthermore, they will have to secure marks in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics which is equal to or greater than 0.9*μ_X, 0.9*μ_Y, and 0.9*μ_Z, respectively.
   10. In the unlikely event of seats for the B.Tech programmes at IIST not being completely filled up, a further relaxation in the value of 'k' (k = 40) may be undertaken, which will result in reduced values for the cutoffs in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. However, all other aspects of the above outlined procedure will remain the same. Such a list will be called "The Additional Rank List" and will be used in the unlikely event of seats for the B.Tech programmes at IIST not being completely filled up.
   11. While preparing the Rank List/Category List, if a candidate belongs to more than one category/subcategory of relaxed norms, then he/she for the purpose of ranking shall be considered in all the categories in which he/she qualifies.
   12. There will be no separate waiting list for the candidates.
3. Tie-break
   The tie-break criteria in the Rank and Category lists adopted for awarding ranks to the candidates who have scored the same aggregate marks in ISAT-2010 are as follows:
   1. Total score in Maths and Physics sections.
   2. Total score in Maths and Chemistry sections.
   3. Lower total negative score in all three sections.
   4. Lower total negative score in Maths and Physics sections.
   5. Lower total negative score in Maths and Chemistry sections.
   The tie-break criteria will be adopted one after another in the order mentioned above. Candidates tied even after this procedure will be given the same rank.
   Additional Tie-Break criteria
   

• The seats in various courses of the B. Tech programmes are allotted strictly on the basis of the Rank lists generated for each category and the options exercised by the candidate at the time of Counselling.
• Each candidate who is selected for admission to a B. Tech programme in IIST shall execute a Surety Bond (on a Non-Judicial paper costing Rs. 100) in the prescribed format duly signed by the student, parent and surety at the time of admission.
• Candidates who qualify in ISAT-2010 will have to submit a physical fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner in the prescribed format that will be made available at the time of Counselling. Candidates will be admitted only if they are physically fit for pursuing a course of study at IIST.
Further details of Counselling and Admission process will be published in the IIST website at the appropriate time.

The expenditure per semester for tuition fees, hostel accommodation and boarding etc is borne fully by IIST for every student who scores a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 6 out of 10. In addition, a book allowance of Rs 3000 is provided every semester to every student. If a student scores less than 6 GPA out of 10, he/she has to bear the expenditure of the next semester.
