Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST)

He is responsible to steer the concept of starting an autonomous Space Institute to train the bright students to meet the needs of future programmes of ISRO. Based on this initiative Government gave the approval for starting Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) in April 2007. He was appointed as Director IIST in July 2007 and took full charge of IIST as Director from 1st Dec 2007 to 11th November 2010. The IIST is an autonomous Institution under Department of Space with deemed to be university status.
