IIST organizes an open day on 14- Spetember, every year, as a part of its foundation day celebrations.School students of 8th to 12th standards of nearby schools in and around Thiruvananathapuram are provided an opportunity to visit labs and facilities in IIST. All Departments and Various Clubs in IIST organizes experiments, demonstrations, poster presentations etc for the benefit of school children, during this occasion.
