The student activity board at IIST fosters a culture of inclusivity, creativity and leadership where every student voice is heard and every talent is celebrated. SAB through its different committees ensure the smooth functioning of a myriad of student activities at IIST, ranging from Technical competitions to cultural showcases, sports activities and even the management of essential services like canteen and hostel.
The Dean of Student Activities and Student Welfare chairs the Student Activity Board (SAB), with the Registrar of IIST, heads of various departments and chairpersons of institute committees such as Sports, Technical, Cultural, Hostel, and Canteen committees and student representatives as members. Each of these committees is led by a senior faculty member and includes both faculty members and student members. These student representatives play a crucial role by offering feedback and suggestions on all matters related to student concerns, encompassing both curricular and co-curricular aspects. The board convenes on a monthly basis or when necessary to address specific needs. SAB assumes responsibility for organizing and coordinating significant events at IIST, including Dhanak, the intercollegiate cultural fest, Conscientia, the inter-collegiate Tech Fest, the Annual Sports Day of IIST, and all other student activities within the institution. Furthermore, SAB oversees the management of various student clubs and the mentoring system at IIST.
Main Committees
It is a vibrant and dynamic body dedicated to promoting physical fitness, sportsmanship, and team spirit among its students. It organizes the annual sports day accompanied by severa tournaments, and training sessions throughout the academic year, catering to a wide range of interests from traditional sports like cricket, football, and basketball to indoor games like chess and table tennis. The committee also plays a crucial role in facilitating students' participation in inter-college competitions, ensuring that IIST remains a competitive and spirited contender in the collegiate sports arena. By fostering a culture of active participation and healthy competition, the Sports Committee significantly contributes to the holistic development of the students at IIST.
The Technical Committee plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and coordination of various technical events throughout the academic year. Comprising dedicated faculty members and student representatives, the committee is responsible for planning, organizing, and evaluating Conscientia, the annual technical fests of IIST which include a wide range of activities such as technical workshops, seminars and hackathons. Their efforts are aimed at fostering holistic development among students, promoting innovation, and creating a vibrant campus environment that nurtures both academic excellence and personal growth.
The Cultural Committee of IIST plays a pivotal role in fostering a vibrant and inclusive campus culture. With students and faculty members, the committee organizes a wide array of events throughout the academic year, ranging from Dhanak, the intercollegiate cultural fest of IIST, Konchords, the intracollegiate music program and performances to workshops and exhibitions. These events celebrate the diversity of traditions and talents within the IIST community, providing platforms for creative expression, collaboration, and mutual appreciation among students from various backgrounds. Through its initiatives, the Cultural Committee enriches the educational experience at IIST by promoting cultural awareness, unity, and a sense of belonging among students and staff alike.
The Hostel and Canteen Committee of IIST ensures the well-being and satisfaction of students residing on campus. Comprising dedicated members from faculty and student representatives, the committee oversees the management and maintenance of hostel facilities, striving to create a conducive living environment. Additionally, it supervises the operations of the canteen, deciding the menu and ensuring the quality and variety in food offerings that cater to diverse dietary preferences. Through regular feedback mechanisms and proactive measures, the committee endeavors to address concerns promptly, fostering a comfortable and supportive residential experience for all students at IIST.
