The annual sports meet 2024 was conducted during 29 Jan 2024 at the Magudagiri ground. The formal inauguration of the meet was done by. Ms. Leena A.Sports Council Secretary & Joint Secretary, Govt. of Kerala.

Annual Sports Meet 2023

Annual Sports Meet 2023 of our institute will be held on April 13. 2023 at Magudagiri ground. Shri. U.Sharaf Ali, President, Kerala State Sports Council inauguarted the events. It also featured the finals of various track and field events. Students participated enthusiastically under the flags of the institute's five houses: Akashganga, Devyani, Kritika, Saptrishi, and Sharmista. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as athletes showcased their talents and team spirit. Prof. Kuruvilla Joseph, Dean of Student Activities, delivered a motivating felicitation address, while Prof. N. Sabu, Chairman of the IIST Sports Committee, concluded the event with a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of all participants and organizers.

Annual Sports Meet 2022

The Annual Sports Meet was conducted during April 22-23, 2022 at the Magudagiri ground. Shri. Jiji Thomson, Former Chief Secretary, Govt. of Kerala and Director General, Sports Authority of India, inaugurated the Sports Meet by hoisting the IIST flag and lighting the torch. The finals of different track and other events were conducted. The students participated in the sports events under the flags of five houses: Akashganga, Devyani, Kritika, Saptrishi and Sharmista. Dr. Y. V . N. Krishna Murthy, Registrar and Prof. Kuruvilla Joseph, Dean, Students Activities, IIST, delivered felicitation addresses. Prof. N. Sabu, Chairman IIST Sports Committee, presented the vote of thanks.

Extramural Events

IIST organized various tournaments, like "Institute Open Football, basketball, badminton tournaments, etc. Approximately 75 students of IIST students participated Manipal Institute Annual Sports Fest during 18-22 March, 2023 at Manipal, Karnataka.

2019-20

Annual Sports meet

The annual sports meet for the academic year 2019-20 held on 31st January (Friday) and 1st February (Saturday), 2020 at the Magudagiri ground (IIST Plot-2). This was the second time we are conducting the sports meet on our home ground, which was inaugurated by the Director IIST on 15th February 2019. It was the grandest and the most awaited event in the college calendar.

The sports event was open with 3000 meters for boys on January 25 and track and field events trials on January 31 afternoon. Dr. G. Kishore, Principal & Regional Director, SAI-LNCPE Thiruvananthapuram was the Chief Guest of the event. Dr. V. K. Dadhwal (Director, IIST) was presiding over the function. Prof. Kuruvilla Joseph (Sr. Professor and Dean (Students Activities) IIST) give welcome the gathering and Dr. Y V N Krishna Murthy (Sr Professor and Registrar, IIST) was felicitated the occasion.
Flag of IIST was then hosted by the Director IIST, followed by lighting of torch by the chief guest and other dignitaries. After lighting of torch Dr. J Solomon Ivan (Chairman, sports council) requested chief guest to come on podium for saluting the march past of different houses. After March past honorable chief addressed the gathering and declared annual sports meet 2019-20 opened.

With the meet declared open the first event were 100 mtrs finals for boys and girls, followed by various other track and field events. Faculty-Staff and their kids also participated. Prize distribution was also done in between by faculty and head of departments.

There was huge participation in almost all the events and all the athletes showed true sportsmanship. All the events were over by 2.00 pm on 1st Feb 2020.

Sports Achievements

i) Students of IIST participated in All Kerala Open Chess Tournament on 05th March 2019(NEXUZ-19), which is organized by Mar Baselious College of Engineering Trivandrum. The IIST chess team has won the Best College in Trivandrum award and Abhishek A (3rd year - EP) won the Tournament‟s Championship.

ii) Mr. Abhishek A (3rd year Engineering Physics) participated in All Kerala Chess Tournament on 19th October 2019, which is organized by NIT Calicut. He won Second position in the TATHVA event.

2018-19

Annual Sports Meet

The Annual sports meet for the academic year 2018-19 was held on 23rd February (Saturday) 2019 at the Magudagiri ground (IIST Plot-2). This was the first time we were conducting the sports meet on our home ground, which was inaugurated by the Director IIST on 15th February 2019. Dr. Pradeep Dutta, the First Indian FIFA conditioning instructor and Associate Professor, SAI LNCPE Thiruvananthapuram was the chief guest of the event. Prof. Kuruvilla Joseph (Sr. Professor and Dean (Students Activities) IIST) give welcome and Dr. Y V N Krishna Murthy (Sr. Professor and Registrar, IIST) was felicitated the occasion.

Sports Activities

Sports council, IIST organized tournaments in different sports and games in the year 2018-19.The council conducted an orientation programme for B.Tech 2018 batch on 21st July 2018. The first year students were grouped into various houses along with their seniors for house matches. The inter house matches commenced on 27th July2018.

INTER HOUSE TOURNAMENTS

We have been conducting inter-house tournaments in football, cricket, basketball, badminton, chess, table-tennis, caroms and volleyball. We have successfully completed league matches as well as knock out matches with in scheduled time, also distribute the certificates and trophies for winners and runners. Among these competitions we got talented students in respective games to participate in national level tournaments and inter-university tournaments.
Friendly matches (boys) in Badminton were held against IISER - TVM’s badminton team on 2nd October, 2018 in IISER Vithura. Total of 12 matches (including both singles and doubles) were played. Badminton team from IIST won 5 matches (2 doubles and 3 singles), and lost 7 matches (3 doubles and 4 singles).
