Organizing Institution

Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) functions as an autonomous body under the Department of Space, Govt of India. The Institute offers graduate, post-graduate, doctoral and post-doctoral programmes. Being a space science institute IIST strives to meet the R&D needs of the Indian Space Programme. Organizing Department

The Department offers doctoral programmes in Economics, Sociology, English and Management. It also offers a number of courses to the B. Tech. students also.Some of the courses include Communication Skills, Introduction to Economics, Macro Economy of India and the World, Visual Communication, Principles of Management System, Introduction to social Science and Ethics and Science Fiction.

Course Objectives

The last few decades in India has seen a shift in methodologies in the arts, humanities and social sciences. The Workshop will seek to address this shift by looking at how interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary research can be conducted within the Humanities in the broad field of research called Cultural Studies. It also aims at enhancing the scholar’s creative and critical writing skills and will help identify research areas, frame hypotheses and arrive at methodologies for analysis.The objective of the workshop is to enable the scholars to plan and do their research in Cultural Studies effectively, envisaging a proper methodology, formulating research questions, and writing with clarity. The Workshop will also cover aspects of the writing process, internal organisation, coherence, style, external structure, editing and more.

How To Reach IIST

The campus is located at Valiamala, 18 kms from Thiruvananthapuram city, on the way to the famous hill resort of Ponmudi and is very well connected to Bangalore, Mumbai & Chennai by bus, train & air. The nearest airport is Trivandrum International airport-30 kms and the nearest railway station is Trivandrum Central (26kms). There are frequent buses from Thiruvanathapuram Central bus stand to Vithura or Ponmudi (Get down at ISRO Jn).

The workshop is open to Research Scholars who are pursuing their Ph. D in Cultural Studies from various affiliated Universities and Institutes all over India.
