The world of mechanisms is rich in variety. Here we compile descriptions of mechanisms selected from a few well known books.
The main purpose of showing and describing these mechanisms is to encourage students to try and understand how various mechanisms work, and how their parts move with respect to each other and serve the purposes for which these mechanisms were designed. Just staring at these wonderful mechanisms and figuring out how they work, leads to significant learning. I believe that understanding and appreciation of the innovative designs of a variety of mechanisms would help students become creative designers of mechanisms.
