To commemorate the vision of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, IIST has introduced a new Fellowship program called “Abdul Kalam Postdoctoral Fellowship” for highly motivated young doctorates with a proven record of excellence in research and who propose to pursue disruptive and cutting-edge research in fundamental science and engineering that has societal implications in research areas related to those being pursued in IIST.

1. Nationality: Indian citizens including people with NRI/PIO status, as well as foreign nationals.

2. Age limit: Preferably below 35 years (Age relaxation of five years will be given to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Physically Challenged & Women candidates)

3. Qualification: 

• PhD degree from a duly recognized Indian or foreign university/institute
• At least three lead author research publications in Q1 journals with a high impact factor.

4. Duration: Initially for one year, with a possible extension for another additional year, subject to performance review at the end of the first year.

5. Emoluments:

• ₹1,00,000/- per month
• Accommodation will be provided on the IIST campus. If unavailable, HRA will be provided as per institute norms.
• Medical facilities will be provided as per institute regulations.

Positions are open for candidates with a strong academic and research profile who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting the award of their degree. The research area must align with ongoing research at IIST.

3. Qualification:

• PhD thesis submitted to a duly recognized Indian or foreign university/institute
• At least two lead-author publications in Q1/Q2 journals with a high impact factor

4. Duration: Maximum of one year, subject to performance review at the end of six months

5. Emoluments:

• IIST offers a fellowship of ₹46,000/- per month.
• The fellowship will be upgraded to ₹58,000/- per month after the award of the PhD degree.
• For candidates who have submitted their PhD thesis to institutions/universities other than IIST, the SPRA position will be upgraded to PDF-I/RA-I after the award of the PhD degree.
• Accommodation will be provided on the IIST campus. If unavailable, HRA will be provided as per the institute’s norms.
• Medical facilities will be provided as per institute regulations.

Positions are open for PhD degree holders with a strong academic and research profile. Candidates should hold a PhD degree from institutions/universities other than IIST. The research area must align with ongoing research at IIST.

• For PDF-I/RA-I: At least two lead-author publications in Q1/Q2 journals with a high impact factor. For PDF-II/RA-II and PDF-III/RA-III: At least three research publications in Q1/Q2 journals with a high impact factor, with two as the lead author.

4. Duration: Initially for one year, with a possible extension for up to two additional years, subject to performance review at the end of each year.

5. Emoluments:

• IIST offers fellowships under three categories:
  • PDF-I/RA-I: ₹58,000/- per month (for candidates with a fresh PhD).
  • PDF-II/RA-II: ₹61,000/- per month (for candidates with 1–2 years of postdoctoral experience).
  • PDF-III/RA-III: ₹67,000/- per month (for candidates with more than 2 years of postdoctoral experience).
• Accommodation will be provided on the IIST campus. If unavailable, HRA will be provided as per institute norms.
• Medical facilities will be provided as per institute regulations

• Fellowship will be as the per norms of the project funding agency.
• Accommodation will be provided on the IIST campus, subject to availability.
