Aditya-L1, India’s first space solar observatory, is also India’s first mission to the L1 Lagrange point. The seven payloads onboard Aditya L1, all developed indigenously, offer astronomers a comprehensive toolkit for studying the Sun's behavior across a wide range of energies. The data from these payloads is going to help advance our understanding of solar physics, space weather dynamics, and their implications for space exploration and technology. The workshop, jointly organized by IIST and the Space Physics Laboratory / VSSC, will offer a comprehensive overview of the fundamentals of heliophysics, the Sun’s impact on space weather, and the mission's objectives. The workshop's purpose is to introduce post-graduate and advanced undergraduate students to research prospects in solar physics in the years ahead.

About the Workshop:

Through a series of engaging sessions, participants will explore the following themes:

  • Basics of Heliophysics: Understand the fundamental concepts of heliophysics, the structure and dynamics of the Sun, solar phenomena, and their influence on the solar system
  • Significance of Space Weather: Gain insights into the importance of space weather and its impacts on technology, communication systems, satellite operations, and human space exploration.
  • Science Objectives of Aditya L1 Mission: Learn about the scientific goals and objectives of the Aditya L1 mission and its payloads studying the Sun-Earth connection and space weather dynamics.
  • Realization of Complex Missions: Explore the processes involved in the realization of complex space missions of the scale of Aditya L1, including mission planning, spacecraft design, instrumentation, and collaboration between scientists, engineers, and space agencies.

Venue of the Workshop:
Indian Institute of Space Science & Technology, Thiruvananthapuram
Dates of the Workshop:
June 3 - 6 / 2024
Who Can Apply ?

Students from any one of the following backgrounds are eligible to apply for the school

  • M Sc Physics - Completing First Year and Moving to Final Year
  • Integrated MS / MSc (Physics) - Completing 4th Year and Moving to Final Year
  • B.Tech (Engineering Physics) - Completing 3rd Year and Moving to Final Year

As the number of seats for the workshop is limited, we may not be in a position to consider applications from students who do not belong to one of the above categories.

How to Apply ?
