Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology envisions the integration of Space Technology and Space Science educational programs with basic and applied research for meeting the national R&D requirements of Science and Technology in general and of the Indian Space Programme in particular. The institute provides a vibrant research atmosphere and offers Doctoral and Postdoctoral programmes.

In the ‘National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) – India Rankings 2016’ brought out by Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India, IIST has been ranked as 8th among the Indian Universities.

Applications are invited every year from highly motivated students for admission to the Postgraduate Programme, in the areas of Aerospace Engineering, Avionics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Earth and Space Sciences.

Fellowship
  • Fellowship will be as per UGC/MHRD norms
  • The M. Tech/M.S students will be required to assist the Departments in academic activities as and when required.
Selection Procedure
  • Every year applications will be received during April - May, only through on-line submission .
  • Number of seats in each programme is 6 (SIX).
  • Reservation of seats for SC/ST/OBC/PWD is applicable as per Govt. of India Orders.
  • The applicants who are shortlisted for M. Tech/M.S programmes are required to appear for a written test/Interview at IIST as the case may be.
  • No TA/DA is admissible for appearing in written test/interview. The shortlisted students are advised to make their own arrangements for travelling and lodging for attending written test/interview in Thiruvananthapuram.
  • List of shortlisted students will be displayed in IIST website. Shortlisted students are required to download call letter from the website www.iist.ac.in
  • Candidates who are employed in Government/Semi Government/PSUs/Autonomous Bodies need to produce a “No Objection Certificate(NOC)” at the time of Interview.
  • All the students have to bring the challan copy for the respective courses at the time of the interview as proof.
  • Students who are selected for the admission have to join the course on the notified date.
  • Classes for the selected MTech/M.S students will tentatively commence on last week of July.
How to Apply
  • Applications should be submitted online only. Applications received online only will be considered for further processing.
  • While applying online, SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/Persons with Disabilities -PWD candidates should upload the relevant certificate before the prescribed date. Applications will be processed only after the receipt of the above proof online. In other words, non-submission of proof online will lead to rejection of application.
  • While applying online, applicants will not be allowed to make any changes in the profile registration once submitted. Hence utmost care should be taken by the student while filling the profile.
  • The applicants who wish to apply for more than one programme shall exercise their order of preference/option of Post Graduate Programmes, at the time of applying itself. The option once exercised shall be final.
  • If the student is eligible and wishes to apply for more than one Department, he/she has to pay application fee for each Department separately.
  • Application fee is Rs.600 per Department (Rs 300 per Department for SC, ST, PWD and women candidates).

Age Limit

28 years as on the last date of receipt of application. Age relaxation is applicable to SC / ST / Persons with disability (PWD) category as per Government of India Orders. No age relaxation for OBC and Women candidates.

  • BE/B.Tech/M.Sc/M.S. or equivalent degree mentioned above should be in first class with an aggregate minimum of 60% marks or CGPA 6.5 out of 10. A valid score in GATE/JEST/UGC NET in relevant area as the case may be, as specified below is essential.

  12. Students who are expected to complete the degree course in the ongoing academic year are also eligible to apply provided the consolidated marklist/marklists of all semesters along with Degree Certificate shall be produced on or before October 31 of the year of admission to the Post Graduate Programme. Till the date of submission of Degree Certificate, the admission will be treated as provisional and such students who have not submitted the Degree Certificate will not be eligible for scholarship. Also those students who have not submitted the Degree certificate before 1700hrs on October 31 shall be disqualified and such students shall not be eligible to continue their studies at IIST further. On submission of the certificate on or before October 31, the scholarship will be paid with effect from the date of commencement of classes or from the date of admission to the programme, whichever is later.
  13. Selected students will be given scholarship as per UGC/MHRD norms.
