Sports and Fitness

A healthy, physically active student is more likely to be academically motivated, alert, and successful. It also helps in building self-discipline and confidence of the student and promotes teamwork and sportsman spirit. To ensure an overall healthy development, IIST encourages the students to actively participate in various sports activities. At IIST, we have a regular program for students to train in various sports and fitness activities by well qualified physical education instructors. Students at IIST form various houses and intramural competitions on various sports events are scheduled round the year. The passion and zest among the students encourages them to participate and compete in inter-collegiate and national level tournaments. The academic calendar also has a yearly athletic meet where students participate and compete in various track and field events. The institute provides sports equipments to students for practice as well as for participating in tournaments.

The Fitness Centre houses many exercise machines such as multi-station gym, tread mills, ab machine, etc apart from weights and dumbbells. These are used by the students, staff and faculty of the Institute. Dedicated and well qualified trainers are employed to help students and others during weight lifting.



IIST houses two indoor badminton courts for training and practice and two other badminton courts for leisure playing. The basket ball facility in the campus is flood lit and helps students to play in the late evenings. Two volley ball courts in the campus are used extensively by the students as well. A cricket net practice in the premises supports students to get well trained in all aspects of the game. A field established in the other part of the campus serves for most of the outdoor games. The leveled field also has volley ball court, long jump facility and tracks for conducting athletic events. Swimming camps are organized once in a year in a nearby swimming pool where students are trained in different styles of swimming. Apart from these, each hostel is equipped with chess, carom board and table tennis that is available round the clock.

Outdoor Facilities

A well maintained basketball court is available within the campus. Flood lights are provided so that the students can use it late in the evenings. Net practice facilities for playing cricket are available within the campus. This facility is adjacent to the basketball court and is floodlit. Students are taken to the VSSC central school ground on weekends for playing matches. A new ground is being developed within the campus.

A clay court and a sand court are available for playing volley ball. This facility is floodlit and is located adjacent to the basketball court.

A foot ball field is established in the other part of the campus. Students are allowed to utilize the facility in the weekends for many outdoor games also.


Indoor Facilities

The Institute has a couple of indoor badminton courts. These are presently located in the academic buildings and would be shifted to the Student’s Activity Centre (SAC) building later. The badminton courts are also floodlit. Apart from indoor courts, the campus also has two courts adjacent to the hostels for leisure playing. Table Tennis facilities are available in individual hostels. Most of the students are table-tennis enthusiasts as every hostel has a table-tennis table and it easily accessible.

Every Hostel in the campus has a Carom board & adequate amount of Chessboards. Students have access to these facilities round the clock.


Fitness Centre


A gymnasium is located in the hostel Dhanista. Various facilities like treadmill, multigym and ab machine are available apart from weights and dumbbells. Weights of different segments are available for training students in power lifting. Two instructors are available exclusively to train students in various equipments.



Sports Competitions

The students are divided into 5 houses and inter house sports competitions are organized regularly. The events include basket ball, volley ball, cricket, badminton, chess, table tennis and caroms. The students are also encouraged to participate in the national level and inter collegiate tournaments.

An annual sports meet is held every year in the month of February. Intramural competitions are held in various sports in this annual meet. Students participate in sprint-100m, 200m, 400m, 1000m, 3000m race. Apart from this, competitions in Hurdle race, relay (4 X 100m), javelin throw, discus throw, shot put, high jump and, long jump are organized.
