Research Work / Area:

My research lab is called as "Integrated Circuits and Systems Lab". You can find more details of our research work  here

I am looking for a PhD candidate during the June 2025 recruitment. If you are interested to work with my group, please apply here

If you would like to understand our research more and want to contact me,  please do so over email. I will get back to you at the earliest.

I work in the broad area of analog, mixed-signal and RF IC design. Some of the areas in which I am currently undertaking research are:

  1. Millimeter-wave CMOS IC design for 5G/ 6G applications: Our group has a special interest in transmitters and power amplifiers (PAs) at these frequencies. We are working on problems that relate to the linearity-efficiency trade-offs in PAs, and techniques to mitigate them. We also work on the problem of efficient phase-shifting for beam-steering applications using phased-arrays.
  2. Sub-THz (100-500 GHz) circuits in CMOS with on-chip antennas: Sub-THz signals have a huge untapped potential for medical diagnostics, NDT scanning, security, etc. This fascinating band has huge challenges when it comes to implementation. Our group has been working on some of these aspects, including the design of wideband on-chip CMOS antennas, circuit and antenna integration on CMOS, fundamental oscillator design at sub-THz, amplifier design at sub-THz, etc. This is a collaborative effort with Dr. Chinmoy Saha, Professor, Avionics, IIST.
  3. Data Converters and Sensor Interface ICs: Our group works with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) towards the aim of indigenization of avionics subsystems, which include ADCs, sensor interfaces, etc. We have currently 2 funded projects where we working on realizing a multi-channel temperature monitoring IC and a high-resolution, medium speed successive approximation (SAR) ADC.
  4. Payload Design: We are involved in designing the electronics and software components of payloads which integrate with different ISRO's mission. One of our payloads - the Integrated Diagnostic Module (IDM) is slated to fly with the TDS-01 satellite which would be demonstrating India's first electric propulsion system. Our group would also be involved in the up-coming Venus mission by ISRO. This activity is a collaborative effort among different faculty members and their research groups in IIST, along with the Small Spacecraft and Payloads Centre (SSPACE), IIST.
  5. Communication Modules for Small Satellites and Payloads: A group of enthusiastic students work with me towards the design and realization of communication subsystems for nanosatellites. Our UHF receiver is under testing currently and is proposed to be flown on the POEM platform of PSLV C60 launch very soon. We are currently working on developing our transceivers at S-band, X-band for upcoming missions. This is part of the Small Spacecraft and Payloads Centre (SSPACE), IIST.
  6. MMIC Design: In a collaborative effort with Dr. Basudeb Majumder, Associate Professor, Avionics, IIST, we are involved in the design of specific MMIC chips which will be used in our nanosatellite program.
