Activities
The Money Minds Club of IIST conducts regular weekly sessions aimed at developing students’ understanding of personal finance, financial markets, and investment principles. The sessions cover a wide range of topics, including fundamental and technical analysis of stocks, mutual funds, gold, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), bonds, debt instruments, credit cards, budgeting, business models, HUFs, quantitative finance, and global political and economic developments affecting financial markets. The sessions also include practical activities where participants analyse market conditions and evaluate different investment options.
The Money Minds Club, in collaboration with the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), conducted a financial awareness session titled “Understanding Insurance: Smart Choices for the Future” on March 25, 2026, at 3:00 PM in the Council Hall, Admin Block. The session will be led by Mr. B. Ajish, Senior Divisional Manager, LIC of India, Thiruvananthapuram Division, along with Ms. Priya Pillai, Senior Branch Manager (CBO 4, Trivandrum — LIC of India), and Ms. I. Ajithasree, Marketing Manager, LIC of India, Thiruvananthapuram Division. This program aims to enhance financial literacy by introducing participants to the fundamentals of insurance, its key benefits, the different types of insurance available, and an overview of the insurance industry in India. The session is designed to equip attendees with essential knowledge to better understand insurance and its role in financial planning
The Money Minds Club of IIST, in collaboration with the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE), conducted an investor awareness session titled “A Wise Investor’s Handbook” on September 10, 2025. The session was led by Mr. Joginder Singh, Regulatory Vice President, NSE, and aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of financial planning, responsible investing, and the functioning of India’s capital markets.
Key topics covered included the structure of the Indian capital market, SEBI’s regulatory role, goal-based financial planning, diversification, long-term investing, and risk management. Participants also learned about investor protection tools such as SCORES 2.0, Online Dispute Resolution, and fraud-prevention initiatives like #SEBIvsSCAM.
Through discussions and examples, the session emphasized disciplined investing, behavioural biases, and informed decision-making. The program successfully enhanced financial awareness and motivated young investors to approach markets with confidence and caution.
Club conducted an Investment Awareness Program in collaboration with National Stock Exchange (NSE), India on November 15, 2023, at 2pm. Many Undergraduates, Postgraduates, and Ph.D. students along with the faculty and other staff members of IIST attended the session.
Club conducted its Session 1 on DeMat Account: Unveiling the Basics on November 18, 2023, at 6pm. Information regarding demat account and how to open a demat account was covered in this session. Students from B.Tech., MTech., and Ph.D. actively participated in the session.
Club conducted its Session 2 on Fundamentals of Stock Market on February 3, 2024, at 6pm. It included subjects such as the definition of the stock market, its functioning, and its correlation with the uncertainties in our environment, supplemented by real-life illustrations. A website offering information on stock markets and listed companies was presented during the session.
