IIST celebrated the 76th Constitution Day (Samvidhan Diwas) on November 26th with a series of programmes to instil a deep appreciation for the foundational law of the country. The day began with the 'Reading of the Preamble of the Constitution', led by Prof. Kuruvilla Joseph, Pro Vice Chancellor, and Dr Deepak Mishra, Professor, IIST. Faculty, students, and staff participated in the programme. Prof.(Dr.)Bismi Gopalakrishnan, Registrar, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam delivered the Constitution Day Lecture. Prof. Bismi started her talk with the remark, โWe are all breathing the Constitution without even realising it.โ She explained that the rights we use every dayโspeaking freely, choosing what we want to do, feeling safe, building our careers, and living with dignityโare all possible only because the Constitution protects us. She reminded that the Indian Constitution is unique and special. It is not just a book of lawsโitโs something that holds this diverse country together. It gives every citizen, no matter who they are, the space to live, grow, speak, question, and dream. It is a document built on values that still guide us: equality, justice, liberty, and respect for every individual. She encouraged students to actually read and understand it to become stronger citizens and more thoughtful and compassionate towards others. Prof. Dipankar Banerjee, Vice Chancellor, IIST, addressed the gathering in online mode and emphasised the importance of shouldering responsibilities when speaking about the rights and privileges that the Constitution protects.. Prof. Kurvilla Joseph, Pro Vice Chancellor, IIST, proposed the vote of thanks. As part of the celebration, visit of school students to different labs and the library was also arranged. Prof. Kuruvilla Joseph addressed the students at the Council Hall. Students interacted with him, other faculty members, and research scholars. A 'Quiz on Constitution' and 'Slogan Writing Competition Centred on Constitution' were also organised for the students. The Pro Vice Chancellor gave away prizes to the winners of the competition.
