IIST actively participated in the Third National Space Day celebration held on 23rd August, 2026, at The FORUM Convention Centre, Ahmedabad, organised by the Space Applications Centre (SAC). The event brought together space leaders, scientists, and academicians.

Prof. Dipankar Banerjee, Vice Chancellor, IIST, represented the institute in the Panel Discussion 1: "Cultivating the Next Generation for an Exciting Career in Space Science & Technology". The distinguished panel, featuring leaders from key R&D and academic organisations, discussed strategic blueprints for bridging academia and R&D institutions with opportunities offered by DOS/ISRO and how academia can advance their curriculum to train the future workforce in Space Science and Technology. The discussion also highlighted the important role of education, mentorship and young talent in shaping the future of India’s space ecosystem. Prof. Dipankar also emphasized the significant role that IIST alumni play in advancing the country's space sector.
