National Space Day - Open House

As part of the National Space Day 2025 celebrations, the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) organised an Open House Programme on August 11, 2025. The event witnessed participation from 25 schools, bringing together 632 attendees, including 303 girls, 280 boys, and 49 teachers.
The programme offered a rich blend of activities aimed at inspiring and engaging young minds:
Interaction sessions with the Vice-Chancellor and Pro Vice-Chancellor.
Video presentations, lectures, and demonstrations by the SSPACE Lab, Ground Station, Virtual Reality, Optics, 3D Printing, Geology, and Astronomy facilities.
Student Club demonstrations showcasing creativity and innovation
Peer-to-peer exchanges, with informal interactions between visiting students and IIST students—one of the most appreciated highlights of the day.
Guided tours of the Space and Art Gallery
Technical explanations of a flight machine
Selfie points featuring the Launch Pad, Astronauts, and National Space Day 2025 theme
Active guidance and support from research scholars and student volunteers, who facilitated sessions, answered queries, and ensured smooth coordination.
The enthusiasm and curiosity of the visiting students were evident throughout, with many expressing their appreciation for the opportunity to explore IIST’s facilities and engage with its academic community.
Outcome:
The programme successfully met its objectives of igniting curiosity in science and space technology, increasing awareness of the Indian Space Programme, and showcasing IIST’s capabilities and infrastructure. It proved to be a meaningful outreach initiative, leaving a lasting and positive impression on all participants.
