National Space Day – Student Symposium at IIST

Under the broad theme of Space Vision 2047 & Beyond for the National Space Day Celebrations for this year, IIST is organising the following ideathon competition for its students. This event is being held in conjunction with National Remote Sensing Day and is proudly supported by IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (IEEE GRSS), which is sponsoring cash prizes for the winning teams.
Event Format
- Type: Team-based presentation symposium
- Team Size: Minimum 3, maximum 5 participants
- Presentation Time: 15 minutes per team
- Topics:
There are two official topics for the symposium.
Teams may choose any one of the two topics for
their presentation.
Topics:
1. Next-Generation Space Technology: Powering the Missions of Tomorrow The future of space exploration is being shaped by a wave of disruptive innovations ranging from advanced launch vehicles to spacecraft and satellite systems. The participants are invited to explore and advance these cutting-edge technologies that will redefine humanity’s access to space.
2. Space 4 Earth: Turning Data into Decisions An ideathon that challenges participants to harness the power of space-based technologies to solve pressing sustainability challenges on Earth. The event encourages cross-disciplinary creativity, uniting technologists, environmentalists, data scientists, and policy
thinkers to transform satellite imagery and geospatial data into actionable insights that shape a better future for our planet.

- First Prize: Cash Award
- Second Prize: Cash Award
- Special Prize: Best First-Year B.Tech Presentation – Cash Award
Rules & Clauses
- All team members must be current IIST students (B.Tech/M.Tech/Ph.D.).
- One participant cannot be part of more than one team.
- Presentations must be original and must not have been presented in previous IIST events.
- Title and abstract must be submitted during registration.
- Multimedia (slides, videos, animations) is encouraged, but total duration (including media) must not exceed 15 minutes.
- Late arrivals will not be allowed to present.
- The judging panel’s decision will be final and binding.
- Certificates will be awarded to all participating teams.
- Plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification.
Registration Closes On: August 15th 2025, Friday Midnight– No entries will be accepted after this date. We encourage you to form teams, pick one of the official topics, and showcase your ideas, research, and creativity.
