In a scientific achievement that places India at the forefront of advanced optical research, Dr Biswajit Pathak and his team at Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram have successfully developed a novel Adaptive Optics (AO) system capable of correcting highly complex optical aberrations in real time. Dr Biswajit Pathak implemented the pioneering work together with his team at the Applied and Adaptive Optics Laboratory. It was recently published in the prestigious AIP Publishing journal, Applied Physics Letters. Adaptive Optics technology has been known to play a pivotal role in modern imaging systems, particularly in astronomy, microscopy, vision science, laser communication, etc.
