IEEE MTTS-SIGHT 2025 Award Grant
The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) is proud to announce that the DROne-MED program, a humanitarian technology initiative focused on medical drone deployment in the Himalayan region, has been awarded the prestigious IEEE MTTS-SIGHT Grant. The research effort led by Prof. Priyadarshan Hari with doctoral fellows Samridh Patial, Gopika Reghunadhan and SSPACE research fellow Yoga Hariharan, is being carried out under the purview of the SSPACE Lab, in collaboration with IEEE MTT-S IIST Student Branch Chapter and IEEE AES S IIST Student Branch Chapter. The initiative brings together interdisciplinary expertise in unmanned aerial systems, communication technologies, and mission planning to address critical challenges in healthcare accessibility in difficult terrain. We sincerely thank Dr. Chinmoy Saha, Chair IEEE MTT-S SIGHT Committee; for their support and for recognizing the societal relevance and technical merit of this initiative. DROne-MED aims to explore reliable, scalable, and resilient drone-based solutions for medical logistics in remote and high-altitude regions, contributing directly to humanitarian response capabilities and technology-driven social impact. This recognition by IEEE MTT-S SIGHT underscores IIST’s continued commitment to advancing application-oriented research, student-led innovation, and technology for societal good. We congratulate the entire team and look forward to the impactful outcomes of this initiative.
