Prof Dipankar Banerjee, Vice-Chancellor, IIST visited the Space Applications Centre (SAC - ISRO), Ahmedabad, during two days – 26 and 27 Nov 2025 and carried out extensive discussions. Prof Banerjee met Dr. Nilesh Desai, Director, SAC and discussed regarding areas of mutual interest to foster further collaboration through projects between IIST and SAC. The areas of overlapping interest in Astronomy and Astrophysics, Earth and Environmental sciences were discussed in detail with group members of Earth and Planetary Sciences and Applications Area (EPSA) led by Dr. Mehul Pandya. It was agreed upon that the faculty members of IIST will work jointly with the SAC counterparts on cutting-edge problems of space applications. One Advanced Space Research Group project in Astronomy and Astrophysics was signed by Vice-Chancellor, IIST and Director, SAC. The PI from IIST is Prof. Sarita Vig, Dept of Earth and Space Sciences, while the SAC PI is Shri Vipin Kumar of Space Sciences Division, EPSA. Prof. Banerjee and Prof. Vig also visited various laboratories of SAC and witnessed the frontier research being carried out by SAC scientists. Prof. Banerjee, who specializes in Solar physics, gave a presentation focussing on ‘Recent Results from Aditya-L1 and other missions’ and talked about Aditya-L1, Punch, Proba-3 missions.
